EMC night-time brightness recommendations have been adopted by over 250 communities across the country. Updated in August 2016, this EMC brightness guide is based on peer-reviewed research by Dr. Ian Lewin, a past president of the Illuminating Engineering Society with over 30 years experience in the lighting industry.

ISA’s staff can provide complimentary assistance to local officials in your community to learn first-hand how to measure and enforce EMC brightness.

For example, on December 13th, 2016 ISA’s Kenny Peskin appeared before the Bridgton, ME planning commission with the Night-Time Brightness Level Recommendations for On-Premise Electronic Message Centers to show them how to effectively regulate EMC brightness. As a result, twelve local officials learned first-hand how to measure EMC brightness and how to enforce the recommendations as well.

If your community would benefit from a similar presentation, contact ISA's Kenny Peskin (Kenny.Peskin@signs.org) for more information.
